TDW to present an excerpt of The Boys Next Door at the 2003 Southwest Regional OCTAfest

The TDW Board of Directors has announced that The Drama Workshop is entering an excerpt of their winter show The Boys Next Door in the 2003 Southwest Regional OCTAfest. This annual weekend of theater will once again be held at Parish Auditorium on the Miami University/Hamilton Campus June 27th & 28th. TDW will kick off the event Friday night at 7:30 PM, and will be the first of 16 theater groups participating throughout the weekend.

No stranger to these excerpts are director Sue Breving and producer Cheri Misleh, who have appeared in the last two productions TDW has brought to OCTAfest. Prides's Crossing and A Piece of My Heart were both well received productions that were invited to perform at the state level competition for the last two years. TDW hopes for a third straight State OCTAfest invite.

TDW is fortunate to showcase a veritable all-star team of community theater actors including: Tim Binzer, Eric Day, Forrest Fairley, Tony Wright, Dee Anne Bryll, and Michael Ireland, who will all be reprising their respective roles.

The excerpt selection will be from Act 2 of the show featuring Norman and Shelia's "date", Jack visiting Barry in the hospital, the "surprise party", and the train terminal where Arnold attempts to flee to Russia.

OCTAFest is a regional showcase held in every summer (usually during June) in each of the respective regions around the state of Ohio. Member theatres are encouraged to prepare an excerpt from one of their season productions which is presented at this showcase. An excerpt, or excerpts, will be chosen to represent the region at the State Conference, held over Labor Day weekend. Each excerpt at the Regional and State OCTAFests are adjudicated by a panel of three responders. The productions receive both verbal and written critiques and comments. Awards are presented for excellence in various categories. Time allowing, workshops and/or speakers are also usually presented during the event.

OCTA(Ohio Community Theater Association) is a service organization for more than 100 community theatres in Ohio and adjacent areas of bordering states. Since its formation in 1953, it has grown to be one of the largest and most successful organizations of its kind. With its funding from the Ohio Arts Council, donations, dues and proceeds from its many self supporting activities, OCTA provides a growing list of services to its member theatres.
